Dear John Green (and Hank too),
I found you, Hank, your books, and vlogbrothers at a really low point in my life. I was morbidly depressed, my principal wanted to kick me out of high school because my health was a liabilty to the school, and I was so sick all the time I was never at school and was failing most of my classes. In January, I was sexually assaulted.
Last year I was mentally stable and healthy. This year I take 20+ pills a day, started cutting, and I just felt so alone. One night I was up at around 3 am and on tumblr when I saw a post of you, John, saying something funny about nerdfighteria. I was really confused. I’d never heard of “nerdfighters” so I looked it up. I spent about 4 hours watching the first Brotherhood 2.0 videos.
I’m in therapy now, and when I get upset and feel sad, I’ll read Paper Towns to make me smile. When I just want to pity myself, but laugh too, I read Looking for Alaska. I read Abundance of Katherines after a bad break-up, and Fault In Our Stars after my friend’s mom died of breast cancer. Crash Course is helping me pass ninth grade, even though I’m now homebound, and a teacher comes to teach me. When I am tired at home and lonely, I’ll watch hankgames. I love watching Legend of Katherine, and the escapades of the Swindon Town Swoodilypoopers. Thank you for being such a great help in my life when I needed an escape, when I needed a friend, and when I needed you and Hank. I know you probably will never read this, but thank you, John Green.
Thank you,
Lindsay
